Steve, you could build one in the mean time. Check out my post New binding jig where I posted a similar (not nearly as pretty) but it works well and only cost me about $5 in materials and the downcut bit was $25. You'll need the laminate trimmer for the other jig anyway. Hope this helps. Oh, it took me about 1 hr to build. Very simple. |

Well I will not sell you mine, but I do own one of these jigs and really like it. Mark builds these in large batches a few times a year and there is often a lot of people who want them. But probably you won't want to wait that long to bind your guitar. Check out what Rod has done. It would probably do the trick, or at least hold you over until October. Josh |

Did you catch the presentation at the ASIA convention a few years ago where Tom Ribbecke demonstrated his jig alongside Linda Manzer demonstrating the Mark Kett-type jig (what you'd get from GuitarJigs)? "Demonstrate" isn't really the word, as they didn't actually cut binding rabbets in front of us, but they had the jigs there, discussed them, and showed how they work. I was pretty much sold on the Ribbecke-type jig, and though I haven't used one yet, I've heard nothing but raves about it. I've since used Mark's jig (in Sergei de Jonge's guitar building class) and it's a very good option, but I still plan on going with the Ribbecke style jig on my next several builds. I don't know if you've investigated that jig, but if not, it's something to consider. LMI sells plans to build it, or you can buy the complete jig from them. |

John Mayes demonstrates cutting binding rabbets on his binding video. His setup looks like the Ribbecke setup, only simpler, just a little platform holding the lam trimmer that rides on a couple of drawer slides, and a carriage that holds the guitar. And Johh Hall of Blues Creek Guitars sells a similar rig, minus the lam trimmer. |

Oh, yeah, sorry I forgot to mention that John also sells a Ribbecke-style jig. BTW, both John and LMI will sell you the jig without the router, in case you already have a lam trimmer you'd want to use with it. In the case of the LMI jig, this will make a big difference in the price. |

If you are looking to buy -- John Hall's is much better value than the LMI pre made jig. Mr. Holden I belive sells the Don Williams binding jig as well. |

Hi Steve, I have mentioned my jig on this forum many times (this is the last time, promise!). It is home made, based on the same principle as the Mark Kett one works really well but a lot cheaper! Check it out, it is near the end of this discussion. Arnt's binding jig |

I use the one at luthiertools, it's great. Precise micrometer control, yous don't need to use tape to adjust the depth of cut, fast, small, light. |

Arnt you need to market it r get with Craig Holden and get him to market it for you

At an NEL meeting last year, we did a side-by side comparison of the three types of binding jigs mentioned here. The two most everyone liked best were the Kett style and the Fleischmann/Williams jig. The builders there had different reasons for why they liked the one they liked best. There's more than one way to do the job. Personally, I like (and highly recommend) the unit sold by Craig Holden.

Steve: I just purchased one of Mark's jigs from Lance K about a month ago. I had been using the type where the guitar rides on the sled up against the vertical mounted lam trimmer. I have only done one guitar so far with the new binding jig, but I can tell that it will definately be with me for a long time. The guitar nearly guides itself on the jig. I too was on the list for the build this september, but was able to buy one from Lance. Good Luck, Tom Harbin |
